Our Week-long Cruise to Delaware via the C&D Canal

July 22 - 28, 2006 - Page 1 of 3

Our departure on Saturday was foiled by weather. We left on Sunday and anchored S. of Rocky Pt. outside of Stillpond Cr. We were Event Horizon, Southern Cross, Aeolus, and Warr De Mar.  We swam to relieve the heat and enjoyed dinner aboard.  Sorry, no pictures until on the canal.

Thanks to Neal Musto, Dan McFadden, & Warren Updike for the photos.

View from Chesapeake City bridge of the anchor basin. The entrance recently dregded to about 8"
View of Shaeffer's Canal House from Chesapeake City. Closed then and in disrepair, we understand it has been sold and will reopen.
Once ashore, we walked the quaint village now nicely restored.
Imagine your extended family living in this with one outhouse.
Boy was it hot and did we enjoy a cooler at the shaded marina bar. A nice place to relax.
Back onboard, we relax and enjoy the cocktail hour (or two.)
The basin is small but with plenty of depth. A number of boats were nearby.
On our way in for dinner at the marina.
After dinner, we take time to swap stories and plan our next day.
Captain Warr and Roger That ham for the camera.  It's Tuesday the 25th and we resume our adventure on the Canal
This was one of the very few large craft with which we shared the canal. The canal traffic is well managed and we never felt crowded by commercial vessels.
Dan, without his crew, wanted to go but not on his C25.  He drove to Delaware City, left his vehicle, and bicycled to Chesapeake City where he left his bike.  When ready to leave Delaware City, Dan drove back to Chesapeake City to retrieve his bike, before continuing home.  Now there is a sailor that doesn't let details get in the way of adventure.
Aeolus on the canal with the current making about 7 kts.
Dan crewed on this trip with Neal on Aeolus
